Measure each parent by placing the measuring tape above the bust, under the armpits, and all the way around the torso (Fig 1.1). This is not your bra size. A correctly fitted carrier should open 5 to 7 inches when worn. Keep in mind that if you need to go up or down in size, there is a 2” length difference between sizes.

Carrier fit: Is your carrier the right size?

A properly fitted carrier will distribute the baby's weight within your center of your gravity. This is where the body naturally distributes the weight of the baby during pregnancy. This is the most comfortable place for your body to carry large amounts of weight for long periods of time. The lowest part of the carrier (with the baby in it) should hang within your ideal fit range (Fig 1.2). If the carrier hangs below your hip crease, your carrier is too large. If your carrier is too large, you will bump the baby when you are walking and it may put strain on your back.
