Q1: What makes the New Native® Baby Carrier different from other carriers?
A: Because our carrier is non-adjustable and is sized to the parent, there is no bulky padding or extra fabric to get in the way. For this reason our carrier is a little more streamlined than many other carriers on the market. We believe our carrier feels safer and more secure for your baby since there are no buckles to slip and be readjusted. The New Native® Baby Carrier is a continuous loop that creates a secure pouch.
Q2: Is there a weight limit?
A: The New Native® Baby Carrier has a tested weight limit of 35lbs. On average, toddlers reach 35lbs at age 4. The carrier works great for babies and toddlers 8-35lbs.
Q3: Can I use the carrier right away with my newborn or preemie?
A: No, there are no baby carriers which are approved for babies under 8lbs.
All carriers recommend use after your baby reaches 8lbs and can hold his/her head up. We recommend extra support for small babies. See our list of concerns and required warnings here.
Q4: How many months can I expect to use the infant support pillow?
A: The infant support pillow can be useful until your baby is around 5 months old. The length of use also depends on how your baby carrier fits you. If your carrier is fitting on the high and tight side, the pillow may position your baby up too high in the carrier. If the carrier hangs lower down on your torso, it is more likely that there will be room for both your baby and the pillow inside the carrier.
Q5: Can the carrier be used with twins?
A: US Federal regulations do not allow for approval of any soft carrier use with twins.
Wearers with twins typically use two carriers, one for each baby. This is very comfortable for the parent when wearing both babies, because each baby can be worn on opposite sides distributing the weight equally.
Q6: Why is the carrier non-adjustable?
A: The New Native® Baby Carrier’s sleek hassle-free design is free of buckles, straps, and rings. Our carrier provides ultimate comfort and ease of mobility for you and your baby. Our carrier is non-adjustable for comfort and safety. Free of extra padding, our carrier helps you and your baby stay cool in warm weather, and has no uncomfortable hardware that requires readjustment.
Q7: Do I need to get a larger carrier when my baby gets bigger?
A: Most people only need one carrier from infancy through toddler (8-35lbs). However, some parents use more than one size for versatility with different carrier positions.
Q8: How do I breast feed my baby in the New Native® Baby Carrier?
A: To nurse, slide your baby near your breast. Pull the inside carrier fabric down to sufficiently expose your breast and help your baby latch on. Tiny babies need support from one of your arms until they can reach your breast on their own. For more private nursing or sleeping, carefully place your baby towards the inside of the carrier so that the outside fabric blocks your baby and breast. Maintain visual contact with your baby at all times to ensure their safety. Return your baby to a SAFE carrying position as soon as your baby is done breastfeeding.
Q9: What is the difference between organic and regular cotton?
- Conventional cotton is the most heavily sprayed crop in the world. The chemicals used are among the most toxic in farming.
- Conventional growing methods deplete and toxify the soil, water, and air. This compromises the health of every living thing on earth.
- When processing conventionally grown cotton, many unhealthy chemicals are used by the industry to clean, dye, and finish the cloth.
- In growing and processing certified organic cotton, no pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers are used.
- Organic cotton is grown in soil rich with compost and other nutrients, and crops are rotated to ensure the soil remains fertile and healthy.
Q10: Can my partner and I both wear the same carrier?
A: Most parents need to be fitted for his/her own carrier. Occasionally some couples with a similar chest measurement can share the same carrier. Refer to Fig 1.1
Q11: Can people with back problems wear the New Native® Baby Carrier?
A: Many people with back problems have preferred our carrier over others. Please consult your medical professional before use.
Q12: How do I wash, care for, and fold my carrier?
